How to make an invoice, step by step

  1. Give it a unique number in sequence (for example INV-2026-001) and the date. Add a due date if you agree one.
  2. Put your name or company, address and VAT number, and the same details of your client.
  3. List what you charge: a description, the quantity and the unit price of each item. The amounts add up on their own.
  4. Check the VAT rate, add your bank details or payment terms and save it as PDF to send it.

Invoicing every month?

Frequently asked questions

What should an invoice include?

A unique number and the date, the name, address and tax number of both you and your client, a description of what you charge with quantities and prices, the VAT rate and amount, and the total. The generator has a field for each one; check the rules that apply in your country.

How do I save the invoice as PDF?

Press “Save as PDF”: your browser’s print window opens with just the invoice. Choose “Save as PDF” (or “Microsoft Print to PDF”) as the printer and save the file.

Do you store my invoices?

No. The invoice is built in your browser and never reaches us. If you tick “Remember my details”, they are kept only in this browser so you don’t have to type them again; untick it to delete them.

Is it really free?

Yes: no sign-up, no watermark and no limit. If you invoice often, a Documentemplate template saves you even more time.
